David has been searching real estate websites daily looking for homes of our liking. We love the area that we are in because it's quiet, friendly, safe, and convenient for us, but it's expensive to live here. So, the frustrating part has been finding something that is affordable and perfect for us.
We recently came across a listing for a duplex in our area that is in our price range and has a lot of potential. David is in love with this place already. There would be a lot of work involved. I've been contemplating whether I want to pursue a house that we could really make our dream home with a lot of work, money, and remodeling. Or if we should continue to look for that dream house that already exists out there, ready for us to just move in.
We've made list after list of the good and bad things of both ideas. David and I both feel comfortable with the idea of buying the duplex, turning it back into a single family home, and remodeling it to our liking. The house is in good condition and we'd be able to live in the house in it's current state.
We've already been pre-approved for a loan. We're having David's cousin-in-law (Steve) do a walk through to get his opinion and thoughts. He would be the one to help us with all of the remodeling and converting the duplex back into a single family home. If all goes well with this walk through and we get Steve's blessing, we're going to put our offer in. The house has been on and off the market several times in the past year. The original price was a lot more than what it is now. Our realtor feels that we have a great chance at getting this house.
I'm excited, happy, anxious, and nervous all at the same time. Excited to finally own a home (we've been renting for 4 years now), happy to purchase new items for the new house, anxious to start making memories in a new place with my family, and nervous that I'm going to be overwhelmed with remodeling decisions and whether they're the right decisions or not!
David and I have been looking forward to the day that we'd finally have a home to call "OURS!" I'll post pics soon!
